Welcome to Heritage Co-op

Heritage Housing Co-op was founded in 1986 through a Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation initiative and our land lease with the City of Vancouver expires in 2026. We are currently in negotiations to renew this lease. There are 36 town-homes in the main building at 717 West 8th Avenue, and 5 1-bedroom apartments in the high rise building on the opposite side of the street. Most town-homes are 3-bedrooms with a smaller number of 2 and 1 bedroom units.

We are situated on the corner of West 8th Avenue and Heather Street in Vancouver, on the unceded ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) nations.

We are close to Broadway, Cambie and Oak streets, convenient for shopping and bus services, with several parks and the Seawall just minutes away. The local English language schools are False Creek Elementary School and Kitsilano Secondary School. L’Ecole Bilingue, for French Immersion, is also nearby.

If you enjoy a busy city environment in a family oriented neighbourhood, Heritage Co-op may be a good fit for you. If you prefer a peaceful, quiet area, the pedestrian and traffic noise may not give you the ambiance you are looking for.

We are a community that embraces equality and values diversity. We are looking for new members who are willing to contribute different ideas and perspectives, and who will help us achieve an environment where all co-op members feel valued and equal.

Co-operative housing is an alternative to buying, not an alternative to renting. We all own and operate the Co-op. The members of Heritage take pride in our strong sense of community. We work collectively to maintain a well-managed, caring housing community.

Members are required to participate by attending monthly general meetings, by becoming active on one or more committees and by contributing in other ways as their abilities allow.

All members are equal in a housing co-op, and each person or family is expected to participate. We are committed to maintaining an environment where all members feel valued and equal. Beyond the basic requirements, we are a community in tune with the needs of its members and lend a helping-hand whenever and wherever we are able.

Desirable co-op members are those who go beyond the required hours of commitment, thus both accepting the responsibilities of maintaining our property as well as enjoying the benefits of living in an exceptional environment. Above all, we are looking for new members who desire to contribute to a supportive and inclusive community.
